A two-year-old boy passed away from black mould in his home that was ā€œunfit for human habitationā€, according to an inquest.

A week before he passed away in December 2020 from a respiratory disease, Awaab Ishak had just turned two and would have enjoyed playing outside, free from the circumstances at home that harmed his health.

He shared a one-bedroom apartment with his parents, Aisha Aminin and Faisal Abdullah, who had previously reported the mould to Rochdale Boroughwide Housing (RBH), according to testimony given at an inquest.

We thought now would be a good time to remind you that in 2016, the majority of Conservatives—at least 71 of whom were landlords themselves—opposed an amendment that would have compelled landlords to make sure that their houses are ā€œfit for human habitation.ā€
