Ursula is a fictional character who appears as the main antagonist in the film The Little Mermaid, but what species is Ursula?

The new version of the classic tale film hit the cinema screens on May and is now streaming on Disney+.

The Little Mermaid was directed by Rob Marshall from a screenplay written by David Magee, based on the iconic 1989 animated film of the same name.

Little Mermaid controversy

When the film was released there was some black-lash as the main character, Helle Bailey. Bailey told the FACE: “as a Black person, you just expect it and it’s not really a shock any more”.

The hate campaign against the movie in the US included the infamous #notmyariel hashtag.

Also, Chinese and South Korean social media were inundated with bad, unverified reviews and outcry over the casting of a Black Ariel.

The reboot has been slammed for ‘pretending SLAVERY didn’t exist’ by a black rights activist who says it takes place in colonial-era Caribbean but ‘the islanders live in racial harmony,’ reported The Daily Mail.

Marcus Ryder, head of external consultancies at the Lenny Henry Centre For Media Diversity and the British chairman of the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art: ‘Children’s films should not ignore the more difficult parts of our history, just because adults feel uncomfortable addressing them.’

What species is Ursula

Leaving al that behind, @TheLoreBabes has created a YouTube video discussing what species is Ursula.

According to Wikipedia: “Ursula is a villainous Cecaelian sea witch who offers a mermaid princess named Ariel a temporary opportunity to become human so that she may earn the love of Prince Eric within three days. However, Ursula is, in fact, determined to sabotage Ariel’s chances so that she can ultimately usurp King Triton’s position as ruler of the oceans.”

Does this video agree with that take?
