The Karate Kid film series is a popular franchise that began with the release of the original movie in 1984. Now Karate Kid is coming again in 20204.

It is on top of Cobra Kai‘s final season likely airing in 2024.

It will also be the year that Sony has tentatively scheduled the new Karate Kid movie to release into cinemas. The movie was announced with a June 7, 2024 release date.

However, the new Karate Kid reboot film has no plans to connect with Netflix’s Cobra Kai series.

The franchise has left a lasting impact on popular culture, with memorable characters and inspirational messages about perseverance, discipline, and personal growth. While the series has evolved and included different characters and settings over the years, the spirit of martial arts and mentorship remains central to its themes.

Here’s an overview of the main films in the series – Spoilers alert

The Karate Kid (1984):
Directed by John G. Avildsen, the original film follows the story of a teenage boy named Daniel LaRusso, played by Ralph Macchio, who moves to a new town and learns karate from Mr. Miyagi, portrayed by Pat Morita, to defend himself against bullies. The film’s iconic “wax on, wax off” training scenes have become legendary. The movie was a commercial success and led to several sequels.

The Karate Kid Part II (1986):
This sequel continues Daniel and Mr. Miyagi’s journey as they travel to Japan. The film explores themes of honor, tradition, and friendship while Daniel faces new challenges in a foreign country. It delves deeper into Mr. Miyagi’s past and relationships. John G. Avildsen also directed this sequel.

The Karate Kid Part III (1989):
The third installment sees Daniel facing a new adversary, Terry Silver, and a renewed rivalry with his old nemesis, Johnny Lawrence. This time, Daniel’s karate skills are put to the test in a high-stakes tournament. John G. Avildsen directed this film as well.

The Next Karate Kid (1994):
This fourth film introduces a new protagonist, Julie Pierce, played by Hilary Swank, as the titular “next Karate Kid.” Mr. Miyagi continues his role as mentor, helping Julie overcome personal challenges and find strength through martial arts. Christopher Cain directed this installment.

The Karate Kid (2010):
A remake of the original film, this version stars Jaden Smith as Dre Parker and Jackie Chan as his martial arts mentor, Mr. Han. Set in China, the film adapts the story for a new generation while retaining the core themes of the original.
