In light of the UK’s position six years later, comments made by journalist Ian Hislop barely three weeks after the 2016 EU referendum are once again going viral.
The editor of Private Eye made an appearance on Question Time, where he was applauded for claiming that those behind Brexit had fled the scene.
Although some have linked it to Boris Johnson, he remarked, “The prime minister who placed us in the situation has resigned.” He was referring to David Cameron.
