Brexiteers fuming after EU flags at proms dominated the final show of the season.

The number of people waving the EU flag in the Royal Albert Hall outnumbered those waving the union flag at the event, it was pretty clear to see.

“Former Tory MP Harvey Proctor calls for inquiry but broadcaster says the Royal Albert Hall decides which flags can be brought into the venue

“The BBC is facing calls for an inquiry into its coverage of the Last Night of the Proms as a sea of European Union flags could be seen being waving throughout the final performance of the summer.”

Proctor tweeted: “The BBC is passing the buck by blaming the Royal Albert Hall. The BBC organised the event. The BBC televised the event. The BBC is ultimately responsible for allowing it to become a prime time political broadcast on behalf of the EU.”

Isabel Oakeshott, as you would imagine, also angrily posted on X, saying: “The Last Night of the Proms appears to be a seething mass of remainers. Can’t wait for Rule Britannia.”

Nile Gardiner, a former aide to Margaret Thatcher wrote: “Ironic to see some of the audience at The Last Night of the Proms waving EU flags while singing Rule Britannia. Rule Britannia represents freedom, sovereignty, and self-determination, all absent in the European Union. Thank God for Brexit.”

This was one of many replies: “Oh good God,Harvey, let it go. Lots of ppl went to the Proms & many of them chose to wave the EU flag. The problem u have is,educated ppl tend to like classical music & educated ppl also tend to have voted to Renain. Maybe it would just be easier to ban the Proms. What do u think?”

Nick Tyrone wrote: “If a noticeable number of people wave EU flags on the last night of the proms, it might possibly indicate a reasonable and growing support amongst the British people for rejoining the European Union – and Brexiters will have to get used to that.”

“Dear #brexiteers, it’s democracy in action. We were there defending the music industry from the outrageous impact of #BrexitWasAlwaysGoingToFail . Democracy as we understand it means that when something is patently not working, the nation gets to vote again and reappraise. Fascism is the opposite of that…don’t be on the wrong side this time.”
