Mean Girls the musical is coming to a screen near you and the date has been revealed.

The original film Mean Girls was a popular teen comedy film that was released in 2004 and starred Lindsay Lohan in the main role.

Mean Girls the musical

Back in January 2020, Tina Fey announced that a film adaptation of the musical Mean Girls was in development.

It is based which is based on the Tony-nominated Broadway musical adapted from the iconic 2004 movie (which made $130 million at the box office) was planned to debut on Paramount+, but will now get a wide theatrical release, reports Variety.

The film will be released on 12 January 2024 in the US, so we expect it in the UK at the same, or close time.

Back story – Plot spoliers

The film was directed by Mark Waters and written by Tina Fey, who also stars in the movie. It’s known for its humor and portrayal of high school life, particularly the dynamics of teenage girls and the concept of cliques.

The story follows Cady Heron (played by Lindsay Lohan), a teenager who has been homeschooled in Africa for most of her life. She moves to the United States and begins attending North Shore High School. There, she becomes entangled in the world of the Plastics, a popular clique led by Regina George (played by Rachel McAdams). Cady befriends Janis (played by Lizzy Caplan) and Damian (played by Daniel Franzese), who encourage her to infiltrate the Plastics to expose their secrets.

The films explores themes such as friendship, popularity, and the consequences of trying to fit in at any cost. The film is known for its memorable one-liners, quotable dialogue, and satirical take on teenage life. It has become a cult classic and is often referenced in popular culture. Additionally, it inspired a Broadway musical adaptation in 2018.
