Superman: Legacy has found its Lex Luthor it seems, as the movie business restarts after the long running strike action.

Superman is one of the most iconic and enduring superheroes in comic book history.

Created by writer Jerry Siegel and artist Joe Shuster, Superman first appeared in “Action Comics” #1, published by DC Comics in April 1938. Superman is often considered the first superhero, setting the stage for the entire superhero genre.

David Corenswet is playing Clark Kent/Superman.

Rachel Brosnahan is playing Lois Lane, with the duo landing the roles in June.

History of Superman

Origin Story:

Superman’s origin story revolves around the planet Krypton, which is on the brink of destruction. Jor-El, a scientist, and his wife, Lara, send their infant son, Kal-El, to Earth in a small spacecraft just before Krypton’s destruction. The spacecraft crash-lands in Smallville, Kansas, where Kal-El is discovered and adopted by the Kent family. They name him Clark Kent.

As Clark grows up, he discovers his superhuman abilities, including super strength, speed, invulnerability, heat vision, X-ray vision, flight, and more, due to Earth’s yellow sun. The Kents instill in him a strong sense of justice and responsibility.

Alter Ego:

To blend in with humanity, Clark Kent adopts a mild-mannered and clumsy persona, working as a reporter for the Daily Planet in Metropolis. His co-workers, including Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen, are unaware of his superhero identity.

Superman’s Powers and Abilities:

Superman possesses a wide range of superpowers, making him one of the most powerful characters in the DC Universe. These powers include super strength, super speed, invulnerability, freeze breath, heat vision, and flight. His vulnerability to kryptonite, a radioactive mineral from his home planet Krypton, is a recurring weakness in many storylines.

Rogues’ Gallery:

Superman has a rogues’ gallery of iconic villains, including Lex Luthor, his arch-nemesis and a brilliant, wealthy scientist; Brainiac, an alien android with advanced technology; General Zod, a Kryptonian military leader; and Doomsday, a powerful and nearly indestructible foe.

Evolution in Comics:

Superman’s character has evolved over the years, reflecting changes in society and storytelling trends. He has been featured in numerous comic book series, graphic novels, radio shows, television series, animated adaptations, and movies. Notable comic book runs include those by writers like Jerry Siegel, Joe Shuster, John Byrne, Grant Morrison, and more.

Adaptations:

Superman has been adapted into various forms of media, including radio shows, animated series, and live-action films. Christopher Reeve’s portrayal in the Superman films of the late 1970s and 1980s is particularly iconic. More recent adaptations include Henry Cavill’s portrayal in the DC Extended Universe (DCEU) films like “Man of Steel.”

Superman’s symbol, the famous red and yellow “S” shield, has become a symbol of hope and heroism worldwide. The character’s enduring popularity attests to the timeless appeal of the superhero archetype.
