The 2023 dramedy “Dumb Money,” starring Paul Dano and Seth Rogen, has experienced a resurgence in popularity following its release on Netflix. Inspired by the real-world events of Reddit users capitalizing on GameStop’s stock market fluctuations during the COVID-19 pandemic, the film portrays financial analyst and investor Keith Gill (played by Dano) and Melvin Capital Management founder Gabe Plotkin (portrayed by Rogen).

Despite its initial struggles at the box office, earning only $20.7 million against a $30 million budget, “Dumb Money” has found a new lease on life through its streaming success on Netflix. According to Netflix’s Global Top 10 list for the week of January 22 to January 28, the film garnered an estimated 3.5 million views, securing the eighth position and accumulating 6.1 million hours viewed.

While “Dumb Money” may not have achieved financial success, it received positive reviews from both audiences and critics. For Paul Dano, known for his roles as The Riddler in “The Batman” and Burt Fabelman in “The Fablemans” in 2022, his next project is Johan Renck’s sci-fi drama “Spaceman,” where he lends his voice to the character Hanus, a large arachnid extraterrestrial. Additionally, Dano is slated to make a guest appearance in an undisclosed role in Prime Video’s reimagining of “Mr. & Mrs. Smith” alongside Donald Glover and Maya Erskine.

Meanwhile, Seth Rogen, Dano’s co-star in “Dumb Money,” is set to reprise his voice roles in “Kung Fu Panda 4” and “Mufasa: The Lion King.” In the realm of animation, he is actively involved in the development of various TV projects, including a remake of “Darkwing Duck” and a TV spin-off of the 2016 film “Sausage Party.” Rogen also served as a producer on Jenna Ortega and Martin Freeman’s recent black comedy, “Miller’s Girl.”

Despite the initial surprise at “Dumb Money” falling short at the box office, considering its star-studded cast featuring America Ferrera, Pete Davidson, Sebastian Stan, and Nick Offerman, the film appears to be experiencing redemption through its newfound success on Netflix, proving that its acclaim was not lost on audiences.
