"More like the promotion of Rees-Mogg vanities," wrote one person in response.

Jacob Rees-Mogg was spouting out about ditching EU laws in the Commons yesterday.

It comes as civil servants are estimated to be spending tens of millions of pounds establishing which laws and regulations could be scrapped under the government’s EU laws bill, reported The Guardian.

Also Ruth Chambers of the Greener UK coalition of 10 major environmental organisations said: “Trying to scrap nearly 4,000 laws in a year with next to no scrutiny is reckless and undermines the environment, business and public health.

“Simply extending the deadline will not change the fundamental flaws. Ministers will still be able to weaken vital protections behind closed doors. Gaps will still be left in the law. The bill will drain resources from government departments trying to deal with the cost of living crisis, and cost taxpayers millions in the process.

“We need a far more considered approach that this bill cannot and will not provide.”

Ress-Mogg has simply ignored all this and tweeted his video from the Commons and wrote: “The bonfire of EU vanities.”

Maybe he should watch this video from BBC’s Ros Atkins.

This week you may have seen the latest stage of the government's plans to scrap thousands of EU-era laws at the end of year. It's both complicated and important – and central to the idea and the reality of Brexit. Hopefully this 5 minute video helps explain it. pic.twitter.com/t9ERUeaiDN

Reactions

1.

Mogg is singularly dangerous, a misguided libertarian who is destroying the core infrastructure of the UK, he has zero understanding of the rule of law, like all criminals he seeks to break it for private interests with catastrophic consequences to the majority of UK citizens.

The bin-fire of the sanities.

This is soooo going to backfire (mwahahaha)!

Currently NO ONE can name a "bad" EU law, or even a good law we voted against, but 2024 will be a non-stop doom loop of bad news about good EU laws now gone; it will be a rejoiner propagandist's dream!
