The iconic board game Monopoly is set to leap from the tabletop to the silver screen, as Margot Robbie’s production company, LuckyChap Entertainment, partners with Lionsgate to bring the beloved real estate-inspired game to life in a live-action feature film.

Following their successful collaboration on the Barbie movie, Robbie, along with her LuckyChap partners Tom Ackerley and Josie McNamara, is set to produce the Monopoly movie. Hasbro Entertainment, the creators of Monopoly, will also be involved in the production.

Lionsgate, having acquired development rights to the board game through its purchase of eOne, sees Monopoly as a global powerhouse, with a staggering 99% brand awareness worldwide. The game, available in over 100 countries since its inception in 1935, has sold nearly half a billion copies globally.

While the specifics of the movie’s storyline remain under wraps, it’s a challenge that Robbie and her team seem poised to tackle, given their success with the Barbie movie, which grossed $1.4 billion globally in 2023. Lionsgate Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson expressed confidence in LuckyChap’s ability to deliver another blockbuster hit, praising their “clear point of view” on the project.
