Today Chris Philp was doing the media rounds, and it didn’t go well.

During his interview on Sky News the Policing Minister claimed that by March this year the government will have hit their target of 20,000 more police officers, which means that will be the most ever at any point in the UK’s history.

However, even former Policing Minister Tory MP Kit Malthouse has admitted that the target of 20,000 means that in reality they need to recruit 45,000. That figure would cover the number of people who retire or leave the force etc.

If that wasn’t enough Western Australia Police issued a plea for officers from the UK, Ireland and New Zealand to join them four months ago – and says it has since seen a “large number” apply from the Met, reports The Evening Standard.

Chris Philp always looks as if he's about to whip open his jacket and offer to sell you one of the many watches he has pinned within it.

There is spin. There is gaslighting. Then there are outright lies. After *that* – anything a Tory minister says. https://t.co/EWES8f9qLw
