Piers Morgan awkwardly silent after being shown Murdoch’s alleged link to Netanyahu

"Do you condemn Rupert Murdoch?"

Piers Morgan found himself in an awkward exchange during a recent TalkTV episode, as rapper Lowkey confronted him with allegations that Rupert Murdoch, Morgan’s boss, had financially supported Benjamin Netanyahu, Israel’s prime minister, in the past.

Morgan, who has been outspoken on the Israel-Hamas conflict, was asked to respond after Lowkey presented what he claimed was proof of Murdoch’s involvement in funding Netanyahu. Lowkey handed over a handwritten letter, which reportedly contained a list of individuals, including Murdoch, whom Netanyahu considered as financial backers.

The moment took an uncomfortable turn for Morgan, who has vocally supported Israel’s right to defend itself following the October 7th Hamas attacks on southern Israel. In his social media posts, Morgan had condemned certain Israeli military actions, particularly a strike in Rafah that killed more than 40 people in a designated “safe zone.” At the time, he stated that while he supported Israel’s defensive measures, the civilian casualties were unacceptable, and urged Netanyahu to “stop this now.”

Despite this stance, Morgan seemed at a loss for words when confronted with the allegations about Murdoch. Lowkey pressed the broadcaster to publicly condemn Murdoch’s alleged funding of Netanyahu, adding pressure to the already tense interview.

Morgan’s refusal to outright condemn his boss during the exchange highlighted the complexities of his position. As the host of a show on Murdoch-owned TalkTV, any statement against the media mogul could have professional consequences.
