A24 has shared the first trailer for Queer, a romantic drama directed by Luca Guadagnino. The film stars Daniel Craig and Drew Starkey and had a successful premiere at the Venice Film Festival. It is set for a limited cinema release on 27 November.

A story of longing and connection

Based on William S. Burroughs’ 1985 semi-autobiographical novel, Queer is set in 1950s Mexico City. Craig plays William Lee, an American expat in his late 40s, living a lonely life within a small American community. His life changes when Eugene Allerton, a young student played by Starkey, arrives in town. This sparks William’s desire for a real connection.

A look at their bond

In the trailer, Craig’s character says, “It was a wise, old queen who taught me that I had a duty to live, to conquer hate with knowledge and sincerity and love.” The clip shows moments of William and Eugene walking through the city, playing chess, sharing drinks, and embracing under the covers.
