Frank Lampard has agreed to become the new manager of Coventry City, according to sources close to the club. The 46-year-old has signed a contract with the Sky Blues following the recent sacking of Mark Robins.
Lampard’s Appointment Confirmed
The official announcement of Lampard’s appointment is expected after Coventry’s home match against Sheffield United on Saturday, 23 November. It is believed that the club’s management did not want Lampard’s first match to be against the Blades, who are currently second in the Championship and pushing for promotion.
Lampard, who left his role as Chelsea’s caretaker manager after the 2022-23 season, will now take on his first managerial role since leaving Everton. His tenure at Everton ended with a record of 12 wins from 44 games, leading to his dismissal.
Previous Management Experience
Before his time at Everton, Lampard managed Derby County in the Championship. During the 2018-19 season, he led the team to the play-off final, although they were defeated by Aston Villa. Lampard won 20 out of 46 league matches at Derby before moving on to Chelsea.
Coventry’s Current Position
Coventry currently sit 17th in the Championship, with only four wins from 15 games this season. The club will look to Lampard to improve their fortunes as they aim to climb the table. Lampard’s first match in charge could be away to Burnley on Tuesday, 26 November.
