Elon Musk meddles in British politics: Starmer and Farage in his sights

Elon Musk plotting to oust Keir Starmer AND Nigel Farage? This just got wild.

Elon Musk is reportedly plotting to shake up British politics, with rumours of grand schemes to push out Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Reform UK leader Nigel Farage. The billionaire tech mogul, known for his love of controversy, seems keen on destabilising Britain with a mix of social media spats and whispered strategies.

Musk’s grand British experiment

According to reports, Musk and his US right-wing allies are brainstorming ways to undermine Starmer and boost alternative parties like Reform UK. The Financial Times claims Musk sees “western civilisation itself as threatened” and is exploring candidates, including Reform MP Rupert Lowe, to replace Farage.

British elections aren’t due until 2029, but history shows Prime Ministers can be ousted mid-term under the right (or wrong) circumstances. Whether Musk’s meddling will amount to much is anyone’s guess, but it’s certainly raising eyebrows.

Foreign interference or just Musk being Musk?

Musk has previously railed against foreign interference in politics – ironic given his alleged interest in influencing the UK’s. Earlier rumours even suggested he might make a hefty donation to Reform UK, further fuelling the fire.

However, his current vendetta against Starmer appears tied to the Labour government’s rejection of a new inquiry into grooming gangs. Musk’s social media platform, X, has since been flooded with posts attacking the PM and safeguarding minister Jess Phillips, leading to threats against her safety.

Starmer hit back, stating Musk had “crossed a line” and calling out those spreading “lies and misinformation.”

The Farage fallout

Nigel Farage, once a Musk cheerleader, found himself on the receiving end of the billionaire’s ire. Musk publicly declared, “The Reform Party needs a new leader. Farage doesn’t have what it takes.” Ouch.

Farage, who just days earlier called Musk a “hero,” was left red-faced as his supposed ally delivered a very public snub. Rumours swirl that Musk might now back a different figure to lead Reform UK.

Free speech vs. facts

Foreign Secretary David Lammy weighed in, urging a focus on “truth and facts” in political discourse. “To have free speech, it must be based on facts and truth,” Lammy said, hinting that Musk’s recent activity falls short of this standard.

Meanwhile, Musk’s mix of political meddling and online rants continues to spark debate over free speech, foreign influence, and the blurred lines between the two.
