There are a number of strikes happening simultaneously today.

This led to a fantastic dig at Jacob Rees-Mogg, but more of that a bit later.

Up to half a million workers will walk out on what will be the biggest day of industrial action in more than a decade.

This tweet from Teacher Toolkit is worth a read.

It's important to note that the impending #TeacherStrike is NOT just about teacher pay!

It's also about:

1. Underfunded schools

2. Squeeze on the school day/hours

3. Teacher workload; one of the highest in the world!

= The means, ALL pupils get less quality teaching!

As expected Jeremy Corbyn will be on the picket lines.

Tomorrow, I’ll be supporting teachers, civil servants, train drivers and bus drivers on strike.

Brave protests of the past have won the rights we enjoy today.

And they have built the foundations of the labour movement we should all be proud to defend.

Illegal

Speaking on a civil servants picket line outside HM Treasury, Trades Union Congress assistant general secretary Kate Bell told PA News the TUC has not ruled out taking government to court if minimum service levels bill passed into law

She called the legislation “unnecessary, unfair and almost certainly illegal”.

Bell added: “We think it is notable that even Jacob Rees-Mogg, who would not normally describe himself as a friend of trade unions, was criticising this bill pretty heavily as being a pretty shoddy piece of legislation.

“We will take every measure we can to defend the right to strike and we are looking very carefully at how we will be able to, if this bill does go through, tackle it legally,” said Bell.

Rees-Mogg comment

Mark Serwotka, General Secretary of the Public and Commercial Services Union (PCS) that represents civil servants appeared on Sky News to discuss the strike action.

Kay Burley asked him to send a message to Jacob Rees-Mogg who has said that the UK doesn’t need as many civil servants as it has.

His reply was subtle but hit like a brick!

He said: “What we don’t need is Jacob Rees-Mogg.”

Ouch!
