Watch: Stephen Flynn calls out Reeves for ignoring Brexit’s impact on UK economy

"The one thing Chancellor Rachel Reeves didn't mention either is Brexit"

Stephen Flynn isn’t holding back. He recently slammed Chancellor Rachel Reeves for ignoring the elephant in the room: Brexit. According to Flynn, if Labour really wants to grow the economy, they need to look at their biggest trading partner, the European Union, and work out a way to get back into the Single Market and Customs Union.

After all, Flynn argues, the impact of Brexit on the UK economy is huge – and it’s only getting worse.

💸 Tax Hikes and Welfare Cuts

Rachel Reeves is making some bold moves, but not everyone’s convinced. Her latest budget proposals include a tax burden that’s hitting a record high and welfare cuts that are causing a stir. The Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) has slashed growth forecasts from 2% to just 1%, and welfare spending will drop between 2026 and 2027.

Meanwhile, protests are breaking out as the government’s plans are unveiled. Critics are pointing to the welfare cuts, which are expected to save £4.8 billion from the welfare budget. However, many fear the cuts will push even more people into poverty.

🚨 Welfare Cuts: The Impact

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) estimates that the cuts will push an additional 250,000 people into poverty by 2029/30, including 50,000 children.

Reeves said, “The OBR estimate the package will save £4.8bn in the welfare budget, based on their judgement of behavioural effects and wider factors.” But with poverty numbers climbing, some are asking: is this really the best way forward?

📊 A Bleak Future?

Flynn’s criticism doesn’t stop there. He believes that Reeves has “boxed herself in” on taxes, fiscal rules, and her stance on the European Union. According to him, the damage is already being felt, and it could get worse before it gets better.
