Short answer – because 2 years during Covid and then with the start of the energy crisis the Chancellor demanded it and the Government voted for it

More economists should be holding Tory politicians to account for the Brexit economic disaster. I am sure they produced Brexit impact statements – did you read them? Why weren't they shared with the electorate BEFORE they voted in the referendum ?????
