Adolescence creator Jack Thorne has responded to an “absurd” theory spread by Elon Musk about the Netflix drama. Musk’s post, which gained attention on social media, claimed that Adolescence was based on a real-life crime involving a Black child. Thorne, however, has strongly rejected this theory.

💬 Thorne Slams the “Absurd” Claim

Thorne, who co-created Adolescence with actor Stephen Graham, was asked about Musk’s claims during an interview on The News Agents podcast. Musk had posted on X (formerly Twitter), suggesting that the series was inspired by the Southport murderer case, in which the perpetrator was Black. The post went on to argue that, since the main character in Adolescence is white, the show must be “anti-white propaganda.”

Thorne was quick to set the record straight. “Nothing is further from the truth,” he said. “There’s no part of this that’s based on a true story. Not one single part.”

🔪 The Real Focus of Adolescence

Thorne explained that Adolescence isn’t making a point about race but rather exploring masculinity and the pressures on young boys. He rejected the idea that knife crime is solely committed by Black boys, calling the suggestion “absurd.” He went on to say, “History shows a lot of cases of kids from all races committing these crimes.”

The series focuses on the story of Jamie Miller, a 13-year-old boy accused of a brutal crime. Thorne stressed that the show aims to explore deeper societal issues, not to make any statements about race.

🤯 The Fallout from Musk’s Post

Musk’s comments have sparked plenty of debate, but Thorne’s clear response has received support. He is adamant that Adolescence is about portraying the struggles of boys in today’s society, not pushing a racial agenda. While some continue to question the show’s portrayal of crime, Thorne’s stance is crystal clear – the drama is a fictional exploration, not a direct commentary on real-life events.
