Liz Truss is still trying to make a comeback, her comeback might last longer than the lettuce, but she won’t be coming back. Sorry awkward and confusing sentence a bit like Truss herself.

It comes after a 4,000-word article for the Sunday Telegraph, where Truss pointed the finger at Treasury officials, Joe Biden, the International Monetary Fund, Tory MPs and the Office for Budget Responsibility for making her job impossible. The ‘left-wing economic establishment,’ she calls it.

Spectator

Anyway, this new attempt to push herself back into the quagmire that is the Tory party, was filmed with the Spectator.

Fraser Nelson asked Liz Truss about why she sacked her then chancellor and long-time ally, Kwasi Kwarteng.

The upshot is that Kami-Kawasi Kwarteng got the boot after 38 days, despite Truss now claiming she agreed with his policy, was that she had to show she’d made a change.

A year of extraordinarily poor vintage when it comes to PMs.

She was Kwarteng’s boss…

She supported his plan

She proudly announced his plan

She green-lighted his plan

Then she did this…

Fraser Nelson: (Liz Truss and Kwasi Kwarteng) didn’t disagree on anything as far as I can work out?
Truss: No.
Nelson: Yet he still had to go.

I didn’t disagree with the man whose policies threatened market meltdown so in good conscience I had to sack him.

I would say this is quite an, er, nuanced argument to sell on the doorstep. https://t.co/SD76RG9L7G
