Ex US ambassador asked why JD Vance hates Europe – best reactions

"Vance loathes Europeans because he knows they wouldn’t even let him sit at the kids' table in a Brussels café." wrote one person in response.

Vice President JD Vance’s skepticism towards Europe has long been evident.

As the junior senator from Ohio, he criticised NATO spending habits, mocked EU technocrats and labeled U.S. support for Ukraine an “unsustainable indulgence.” As a senate candidate, he went further, famously saying he didn’t “really care what happens to Ukraine one way or another.”

When President Donald Trump selected Vance as his running mate, some allies hoped the weight of the office might moderate his views.

Vance also angered European leaders when he told Fox News’ Sean Hannity this month that the U.S. economic pact with Ukraine was a better peace option than Ukraine being supported by “20,000 troops from some random country that hasn’t fought a war in 30 or 40 years.”

Now, the text-message debacle over the U.S. attacks on the Houthis is the latest example that Vice President Vance is the Trump team’s chief antagonist of Europe — both publicly and behind the scenes.

After Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth made a case for the attacks, Vance responded: “If you think we should do it let’s go. I just hate bailing Europe out again.”

“I fully share your loathing of European free-loading,” Hegseth responded. “It’s PATHETIC.”

Why loathe Europeans

Michael McFaul asked: “Why does Vance loathe Europeans so much? I honestly don’t understood it. Explanations?”

This wasn’t very nice…

Europeans are a bunch of elitist deadbeats who want the USA to protect them while they enjoy spending that part of their country's budget to make their lives better and who have now found themselves under communist puppet regimes who hate the native whites, but you already knew…

European soldiers died fighting next to American soldiers in Afghanistan, fighting to protect us after we were attacked. Some Europeans alos fiught with us in Iraq. Don't forget their sacrifice to defend us. https://t.co/0PDCPcI94b

Vance loathes Europeans because he knows they wouldn’t even let him sit at the kids' table in a Brussels café. He’s like an uninvited guest at a party who complains about the music while everyone else wonders how he even got in. Turns out, when you constantly belittle your…

Vance was born in 1984, so he would have seen full cut pants for his first 20 years. This changed in early 2000s when Euro designers like Raf Simons and Hedi Slimane shrank men's clothes as a reaction to the 90s. This culminated in a humiliating experience for him last month. pic.twitter.com/9xySxq5AJC
