Elon Musk has said that he would spend less time working for the US administration’s Department of Government Efficiency, or DOGE, lifting hopes Tesla’s divisive co-founder would devote more time to the EV maker and tech firm.

He is reportedly set to leave his government role because he’s tired of the what he sees as a litany of vicious and unethical attacks from the left, according to a report from The Washington Post.

He acknowledged public criticism and vandalism of Tesla showrooms in response to DOGE’s aggressive cost cutting efforts, but dismissed suggestions his involvement had affected the group’s performance.

Musk says from next month he will only work a day or two per week for President Donald Trump.

Brand damage

Analysts at Wedbush wrote: ‘The brand damage caused by Musk in the White House/DOGE over the past few months will not go away just by this move and some of the damage will be stained forever in Europe and the US.

‘But this was the time to close one dark chapter and open a brighter one for the Tesla story with autonomous and robotics front and centre.

‘There are still headwinds, tariffs, and clear growth challenges for Tesla over the coming year….but Musk recommitting as CEO as Tesla and basically leaving his DOGE role over the next month is the biggest and best possible news Tesla investors could have heard last night.

‘Some of the brand damage will slowly go away…but importantly Tesla got back its biggest asset….Musk.’

He still doesn’t understand that he’ll never stop being made fun of. He has no clue that his role in history has already been etched.

That’s actually awesome, because it’s 100% a blindspot afforded by privilege

The guy isn't in politics. Nobody voted for him. He didn't do shit. Stole a shit ton of data. Government spending is actually up. Ruined the careers of 1000s of people and then decided "meh" not for me. Doesn't matter if he leaves the Trump administration tomorrow. He made his… https://t.co/MXMGCxB6F6

America's victimhood problem is so bad that even Elon Musk, the richest most influential person in the world, will play.

He chose to enter the fray, failed to come close to fulfilling his promises, was intentionally trolly, combative, and mean-spirited. And now….

There is no easy way out once you influence the political sphere to the extent that he has. These attacks will continue indefinitely and it is his own fault. If he didn’t want pushback then he should never have involved himself in politics in the first place. pic.twitter.com/AuQcqCbuc9

Boo hoo poor Elon, he really thinks he can just walk away after all the damage he did. The world won’t rest until everything around him crashes and he ends up the poorest man in the world.

There will be no forgiveness. Musk should just flee back to South Africa. pic.twitter.com/7BUmGHjWWv
