Watch: Labour MP confronts grim reality as Labour and Tories struggle in the polls

"You’re now down to less than 45% of the vote. That hasn’t happened for over 100 years.”

Pat McFadden, Labour’s chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster, was confronted with a stark graph this morning showing the dismal state of support for both Labour and the Tories.

🗳️ The Polls Don’t Look Good

With the local elections on the horizon, the first major test since last July’s general election, neither the Conservatives nor Labour are seeing major increases in support. The big surprise? Nigel Farage’s Eurosceptic party, Reform UK, is on track for a significant victory despite having just four MPs.

During an interview with Sky News host Trevor Phillips, McFadden was presented with a graph revealing how low the backing for the two historic parties currently is.

Phillips said: “How concerned are you about the fall-off of the historic two great parties, the Conservatives and Labour? You’re now down to less than 45% of the vote. That hasn’t happened for over 100 years.”

🔴 Labour’s Response

McFadden responded, acknowledging the challenges faced by the government. “We had some tough stuff to sort out after the election last year,” he said. “I accept that some of those decisions haven’t been the most popular, but we’re starting to see things turn around now.”

He pointed to improvements, such as a reduction in NHS waiting lists for six consecutive months and a 50% increase in diagnostic tests compared to last year. “We are starting to turn things around,” McFadden added. “But it will take some time to feel the benefit.”

🚨 Reform UK On the Rise

The shock of the day came from a mega-poll conducted by More in Common, which found Reform UK could win the next general election. The poll surveyed over 16,000 people, and the results showed Reform UK would secure 180 MPs, while Labour and the Tories would each win only 165.
