Nigel Farage’s latest claims have been slammed, this time over the UK-India trade deal.
Trade deal
The UK and India have agreed a landmark trade deal which delivers on this government’s core mission of growing the economy, raising living standards, and putting money in people’s pockets.Â
Indian tariffs will be slashed, locking in reductions on 90% of tariff lines, with 85% of these becoming fully tariff-free within a decade.
Whisky and gin tariffs will be halved from 150% to 75% before reducing to 40% by year ten of the deal, while automotive tariffs will go from over 100% to 10% under a quota.
British shoppers could see cheaper prices and more choice on products including clothes, footwear, and food products including frozen prawns as UK liberalises tariffs.
The deal is expected to increase bilateral trade by ÂŁ25.5 billion, UK GDP by ÂŁ4.8 billion and wages by ÂŁ2.2 billion each year in the long run.
Farage
Reform shared a clip of Farage discussing the recent trade deal between India and the UK.
Reform’s also added this to the clip: “Two Tier Keir betrays British workers. It is now 20% cheaper to hire Indians than British people. He has cut taxes for Indian workers and hiked them British workers.”
The Reform UK leader hit back at the Business Secretary on LBC claiming the new trade deal with India is “unfair” as some workers will be exempt from paying national insurance in the UK for three years.
“This undercuts British workers,” Mr Farage told Nick Ferrari.
Response
In response, Jonathan Brash, Labour Member of Parliament for Hartlepool, replied on X, writing: “Total nonsense from this grifter. The NI rules only apply to Indian companies in India, who send temporary workers to the UK for Indian Businesses, and not Indians on Work Visas being hired by UK businesses.
