Jeremy Corbyn has made a statement, via the Independent Alliance, slamming the situation in Gaza.
Independent Alliance
Jeremy Corbyn is among five independent MPs who have formed an Independent Alliance group opposing inequality and war.
The former Labour leader joined four other independents elected in July, 2024, forming the group, which is the fifth biggest block in parliament.
The other members are Shockat Adam, who defeated Labour frontbencher Jonathan Ashworth in Leicester South, as well as Ayoub Khan, Adnan Hussain and Iqbal Mohamed, who all also stood on pro-Gaza tickets.
Gaza
The statement comes as an Israeli government minister has vowed that “Gaza will be entirely destroyed” as a result of an Israeli military victory, and that its Palestinian population will “leave in great numbers to third countries.”
The declaration by the finance minister, Bezalel Smotrich, came a day after Israel’s security cabinet approved a plan for Operation Gideon’s Chariots, which an Israeli official said would entail “the conquest of the Gaza Strip and the holding of the territories”.
The Israeli threats to seize control of the territory permanently has stirred global outrage.
Statement
Corbyn shared the statement and wrote: “Ethnic cleansing was always the plan — and our government cannot pretend it didn’t know. A statement from the Independent Alliance.”
He also spoke about the issue in Parliament, he shared the video and wrote: “Enough. Stop equivocating. Stop aiding ethnic cleansing. Stop arming Israel.”
