Nigel Farage recently used the 80th anniversary of VE Day to push his vision for Britain’s future. At a reception for World War II veterans, the Reform UK leader promised to restore patriotism in the younger generation by introducing “British values” into the school curriculum.
An Express reporter at the event painted a colourful picture of the Clacton MP’s entrance. Farage arrived in a Union Jack tie and matching socks, shaking hands with veterans proudly sporting their hard-earned medals. He told the gathered crowd that his bond with veterans lies in their shared values – values he claims are being lost in modern Britain.
“If nothing else, one thing seems certain,” the reporter noted. “Under Reform UK, Britain would undoubtedly feel more British than ever.”

📝 Letter to The Times Nails Farage
Not everyone is convinced. Pete Dorey of Bath fired off a sharply worded letter to The Times, casting doubt on Farage’s grasp of British values.
“I am intrigued that Nigel Farage wants schools to teach British values to ‘remoralise’ young people,” Dorey wrote. “To me, British values include empathy, fairness, honesty, mutual tolerance, open-mindedness, promotion of national unity over divide and rule, and respect for experts and institutions. I do not discern any of these values in Mr Farage.”
It’s a scathing assessment, and one that has struck a chord with many.
