A Question Time audience member stunned the panel with a bold challenge over the UK’s support for Israel — just days after VE Day commemorations.
🎙️ ‘How can that be?’
During a heated debate about Gaza, one woman compared the government’s actions to a glaring contradiction.
“We just celebrated VE Day — the end of fascism, Hitler, the Nazis,” she said. “That was genocide. And the same thing is now happening to another group of people.
“How can we celebrate that, while still supplying arms to Israel?”
The studio applauded. Online, the clip quickly went viral.
🌍 Humanitarian crisis deepens
The remarks followed a statement from UN humanitarian chief Tom Fletcher. He told the Security Council that aid workers are “trying to prevent a genocide” in Gaza.
Israel has blocked food, fuel, and medicine from entering Gaza since March, hoping to force Hamas to release hostages. The blockade has pushed Gaza’s 2.3 million residents to the brink.
📉 A growing catastrophe
The UN now warns that nearly half a million Palestinians face starvation. Another million can barely access enough food to survive.
Despite this, the UK continues to approve millions in arms sales to Israel — drawing heavy criticism from human rights groups and MPs alike.
🤔 A moment of reckoning?
The clip has sparked wider questions about foreign policy and morality.
“You can’t celebrate ending genocide in one era, and ignore it in another,” one viewer posted online.
