James Corden has hinted he might swap the studio for City Hall. After years in the US, the TV star’s back in Blighty—and eyeing a political career in London.
🤝 Star-studded BAFTA conversations
At last weekend’s BAFTA TV Awards, Corden rubbed shoulders with former Labour deputy leader Harriet Harman, ex-Scottish Tory chief Ruth Davidson and Sky News political editor Beth Rigby.
He even met the hosts of the Electoral Dysfunction podcast. A Mail on Sunday insider says he “told them he was a regular listener” and loves “the cut and thrust of politics.”
🗣 Respect for political contenders
“He clearly has a lot of respect for those who put themselves out there and run for office,” the source adds. “It was suggested he should step into the political arena. There was talk he should run for Mayor of London.”
🎯 Labour’s hunt for a successor
Labour needs a fresh face to replace Sadiq Khan, who’s expected to stand down in 2028. Khan first won City Hall in 2016 and secured a third term last year.
💬 A long-time Labour backer
Corden has championed Labour before. After the party’s 2019 defeat, he tweeted:
“I can’t shake the feeling that if @tom_watson had been leader of the Labour Party the outcome of this could’ve all been so different. Jeremy Corbyn has now lost two elections to opposition candidates who could’ve and should’ve been beaten.”
