Nine years on from the Brexit vote, the tide of public opinion seems to be turning – and fast. As the anniversary of the 2016 referendum rolls around, a new YouGov poll reveals that more Brits than ever are regretting the decision to leave the EU.

📉 Brexit support hits all-time low

Support for Brexit has now slumped to just 31%, according to YouGov’s latest polling – one of the lowest figures ever recorded. A growing majority, 56%, now say it was the wrong decision to leave the EU.

The gap between ‘Leave’ and ‘Remain’ sentiment has been widening steadily since 2022 – but it’s now becoming a chasm.

🤔 A nation of ‘Bregret’

YouGov’s findings paint a bleak picture for Brexiteers. A full 61% of Brits now say Brexit has been more of a failure than a success.

Even more striking, 65% want the UK to have a closer relationship with the EU again – including majorities across all political parties and even 60% of Leave voters.

It’s a clear signal that the mood in Britain has shifted.

🗳️ Brits want another vote – and soon

Among voters who have made up their minds, 51.7% support holding a new referendum to rejoin the EU within the next 5 to 10 years.

That support jumps to 59% when the timeline is extended to 2035 – suggesting many see the return to the EU as not just desirable, but inevitable.

⌛ Nine years later, the public wants a rethink

June 23 marks nearly a decade since that fateful Brexit vote – and the promised “sunlit uplands” have failed to materialise for many.

With growing calls to ‘Brejoin’, public opinion is starting to align behind the idea of reversing Brexit. The only question now is: when?
