Trump threatens Mamdani – and gets absolutely roasted

"Fascism in full swing. Mamdani won with a mandate and Trump is losing his mind. Sorry, Mr. President, Mamdani is here to stay."

Donald Trump has a new political nemesis — and he’s not exactly taking it well.

Zohran Mamdani, the progressive candidate who stunned America by toppling former governor Andrew Cuomo, is set to run as the Democratic pick for New York mayor. But after rising quickly through the ranks, he’s found himself firmly in Trump’s crosshairs.

The president bizarrely suggested Mamdani should be arrested, tying it into one of his usual tirades about foreign-born citizens. Never mind the fact that Mamdani is a naturalised US citizen and has committed no crime.

Republicans, meanwhile, have been busy branding Mamdani a “communist” and mocking him for eating with his hands — which, funnily enough, most people do when eating pizza, burgers, or fries.

But the internet wasn’t having it — and the comebacks? Brutal.

💬 Must-read clapbacks

Here are of the most scathing responses to Trump’s outburst:

1

I don't care if you're the President of the United States, if you threaten to unlawfully go after one of our neighbors, you're picking a fight with 20 million New Yorkers — starting with me. https://t.co/ZKWSuCuT1p

— Governor Kathy Hochul (@GovKathyHochul) July 1, 2025

2

I'm a naturalized citizen. If you strip Mamdani’s citizenship over his politics (which I also disagree with), you make all of ours revocable.

Citizenship isn’t a reward you get to take back. It’s either a right in a nation of laws or we are no longer a nation of laws. https://t.co/QcAPlsZXMt

Fascism in full swing. Mamdani won with a mandate and Trump is losing his mind.

What’s worse? The authorial fascistic ‘arrest him’ answers from the president or the authoritarian sycophantic loaded partisan questions from the fake reporters who now get to turn up and ask questions at presidential press conferences? https://t.co/GUAztRUdO5

People don’t realize just how bad it’s about to get in America under this fascistic regime.

People are in denial. https://t.co/KTE4xZkYJF

This partisan commentary masquerading as a question, inviting Trump to attack Mamdani, was asked by Benny Johnson, a far-right influencer twice fired by news outlets for plagiarism who was then recruited by a pro-Trump outlet covertly funded by the Kremlin https://t.co/bygFhg1u8j https://t.co/YBTxH8cvST

🗳️ The bigger picture

With Mamdani’s popularity rising, Trump’s panic is showing. His threat to arrest a perfectly legal, elected political opponent says more about his own authoritarian instincts than anything else.

But if these online responses are anything to go by, the public’s not letting it slide.
