According to The Hollywood Reporter, Wednesday actress Jenna Ortega is reportedly negotiating for a part in Tim Burton’s Beetlejuice 2.

Ortega, according to the publication’s sources, is being considered for the role of Lydia, played by Winona Ryder in the 1988 original film. Also, it is said that Tim Burton would reportedly lead the long-awaited sequel, with Michael Keaton slated to make a comeback, and that filming will start in May or June of this year.

Representatives for Ortega and Warner Bros. have not responded to the report.

Since the 1988 release of the first Beetlejuice film, rumours of a sequel have persisted, but it seems Beetlejuice 2 has been quietly moving towards reality over the past ten years. Tim Burton first hinted about a sequel in 2011, and after Michael Keaton acknowledged they had spoken in 2014, Burton said in 2017 that it was “closer than ever.” The writer of Rememory, Mike Vukadinovich, reportedly revised a Beetlejuice 2 script back in 2017.
