It was budget day yesterday how was it for you?

Well, unless you are already rich, probably not that good.

There is always time in a Tory budget for a giveaway to the top 1%! pic.twitter.com/jolEUrSmnL

The UK remains on track for a “disastrous decade” of stagnant incomes and high taxes, despite cuts to public services, the Resolution Foundation has said in its analysis of the budget on Wednesday.

The thinktank said taxes as a share of gross national product were on track to hit 37.7% by the end of the forecast, a 70-year-high and a 4.7% increase since 2019-20, the equivalent to nearly an extra £4,200 for every UK household.

Brexit Benefit?

Yes, but what is the Brexit benefit you said in the headline?!

Corbyn breaks silence: new party ‘will create hope’ as Labour ‘fails to deliver change’

July 4, 2025

Here it is, Mr Hunt said he would “significantly increase the generosity of draught relief” which he said he could not have been done inside the EU.

He told MPs: “From August 1 the duty on draught products in pubs will be up to 11p lower than the duty in supermarkets, a differential we will maintain as part of a new Brexit pubs guarantee. British ale may be warm, but the duty on a pint is frozen.”

The Chancellor even said the said the change will apply to “every pub in Northern Ireland” due to the Windsor Framework.

Let’s hope he get the next round (of talks) in, might get 2p off a bottle of Hooch for the good people of Belfast.

Here he is…

Hunt announces a "Brexit Pubs Guarantee" with the sentence "British ale is warm, but duty is frozen."

In case you were thinking this would be a serious budget. ~AA #Budget2023

2.

Jeremy Hunt has the temerity to name a freeze on alcohol duty for pubs a 'Brexit pubs guarantee'.

Great, but who will pull the pints now that the bar staff has gone home to the continent?

Who cares about food shortages when you can have a cheaper pint at the pub, right?!

5.

Take with one hand…

Remember in Sunak’s 2021 Autumn budget he promised us cheaper fizz?

Yesterday reversed that

And made wine more expensive

But all you’ll hear about is this Brexiter-baiting ‘Brexit pubs guarantee’

Once again…

Never trust a Tory. https://t.co/aFCIQv5Uja

“Brexit pubs guarantee”

Another laughably negligible ‘benefit’ of leaving the world’s most prosperous trading bloc and having to spend the next decade furiously pretending that that wasn’t an intensely stupid and disadvantageous thing to do.

7.

Steps to creating a "Brexit benefit":

1. Announce something we could have done while still an EU member that probably isn't a great idea anyhow.
2. Put Brexit somewhere in what you call it, like "The Brexit pubs guarantee", to take something random and silly.
3. Job done.

Another Tory Budget unravelling. So many missed opportunities and so much spin. Many barefaced lies. So many cans kicked down the road. More #Brexit lies on the #Covid vaccine. And a 'Brexit beer guarantee'. Patronising bullshit of a rancid Government running a stagnant Country. pic.twitter.com/tnQ3BAgBeI
