Watch: Ken Loach & Noam Chomsky slam media over treatment of Jeremy Corbyn

"The BBC's cowardice - saved by 'the pips'", wrote one person in response.

Last month Labour’s governing body voted to block Jeremy Corbyn from standing as a Labour candidate at the next election.

The National Executive Committee (NEC) voted 22 to 12 to approve a motion from Sir Keir Starmer to prevent Labour endorsing Mr Corbyn. There is no right of appeal.

Mr Corbyn is suspended from being a Labour MP and sits as an independent following a row over antisemitism.

The former Labour leader called it a “shameful attack on party democracy”.

Back on agenda

Now seems Corbyn is back on the agenda after Labour Against Antisemitism spokesperson said Dianne Abbott should ‘leave Labour’ and join ‘Jeremy Corbyn’ over comments she made about Jewish People.

What has Corbyn up to lately?

Well, battling to stop homelessness is one thing.

This is a national disgrace that should be headline news across every single media outlet.

Civilised societies don't let human beings die on the streets.

We have the resources to end homelessness – we just need the political will. https://t.co/oqPkbMITtx

Ken Loach

Filmmaker Loach tried to fight Corbyn’s corner and the way the media treated him, but ironically was cut off mid way through his argument.

Ken Loach ‘I would say there is a political vacuum. The programme that Corbyn stood on nearly won the 2017 election and now you don’t even include it. You haven’t told the story that over 200k members have left the Labour party. Starmer has split the party when he promised unity.’

Chomsky

Over on Times Radio Matt Chorley challenged Noam Chomsky over former Labour leader Jeremy Corbyn.

Chorley slammed Chomsky over his support for Corbyn.

But Chomsky, a long-standing hard-left campaigner and supporter of Corbyn, maintained that it was “the British establishment” — including The Times — which had “come down on [Corbyn] with a ton of bricks, with false, deceitful propaganda about antisemitism, all exposed as lies…”

Reactions

1.

Matt Chorley is such a sanctimonious idiot.

Mr Corbyn, in 2017, increased Labour’s vote share by more than any other leader since 1945 and brought Labour closest to power since the Blair years.

Internal sabotage prevented a win & nobody talks of the mountain JC had to climb.

2.

Quite incredible seeing a 94-year-old get a seasoned broadcaster in a flap simply by saying the one thing that's unsayable in most of the media: that the people wanted Jeremy Corbyn but the establishment did not. https://t.co/oc5HOs1T63
