Reactions as Liz Truss won’t pay for missing items – It’s a disgrace

There were also claims some 'white powder' was consumed there...

Liz Truss was once our PM, the shortest serving, but she still led this nation. Not a lot of people can say that, we guess.

But the wheels came off and now she is caught up in another bizarre squabble.

She has refused to pay £12,000 in missing bathrobes row at the grace and favour Chevening estate.

One imagines she said ‘this is a disgrace,’ when she saw the invoice.

Truss has demanded an invoice with all costs, as if a waiter has added on an extra bottle of red at a boozy lunch.

What has gone missing?

The MIA items include bathrobes and slippers from her grace-and-favour country home.

The former Prime Minister was sent the bill by the Cabinet Office to cover the period last summer when she was using the Chevening estate to prepare for her short-lived administration.

A source said officials have told Truss she needs to pay for items which went missing during her tenure at the home.

She also had to pick up the bill for food and drinks, her team consumed there, when they were working on party business rather than matters of state. One imagines some pork and cheese would be have been mistakenly eaten.

Liz Truss and class A drug?

Also, back in December, The Guardian reported that traces of a suspected Class-A drug were found at Chevening after the parties – which Ms Truss has said is ‘categorically untrue’.

A load of bathrobes and slippers seem to have gone missing from Chevening when Liz Truss was using it: classy. pic.twitter.com/VaXqeoNgbw

I remember once staying in a really posh hotel. I nicked the mini branded shampoo because I knew it was well above my station in life. A little memento of my weekend of luxury that I knew was out of my league.
Same thing 😆

It really is only one £12,000 missing bathrobe, but no one would believe it, so let us just go with "bathrobes."

On a serious note…

"This isn’t about bathrobes: it’s about the fact that far too many people seem to view public service as a route to private wealth."
The case of the missing bathrobes … what Liz Truss’s latest gaffe tells us about grubbiness and greed https://t.co/OIxgtlHBkx
