Reaction

Shadow Home Secretary Yvette Cooper said: “Fraud is a pernicious crime that ruins the lives of millions of people across the country.

“Yet few victims ever get a police response and the Home Office has totally failed to get any grip despite the rapid growth of fraud.”

She added: “This plan is too little, too late and fails to match the scale of the problem”.

Mone

A LOT of accounts were wondering when the government would investigate Baroness Mone.

Baroness Michelle Mone took a leave of absence from the House of Lords after questions around her alleged links to a firm awarded contracts for personal protective equipment (PPE) intensified.

In 2021, the government revealed that she had referred PPE Medpro via the VIP lane system, with the company awarded two contracts worth £200m.

She is facing allegations that she had profited from the business, a claim she denies.

Mone recently jetted off with her husband to a £7million villa in the Algarve – which he reportedly bought three months after their homes were raided by police investigating their £200million government PPE contract.
