The Mortal Kombat movie sequel Mortal Kombat 2 has received an intriguing update.

One of the most popular game franchises, the Mortal Kombat series has always been prime for a movie adaptation.

While it’s not… amazing, Hollywood’s 1990 attempt at it is still far superior than many other video game-to-movie adaptations.

It’s a little corny, the characters are all dressed appropriately, and they’re killing each other rather brutally. Although it hasn’t aged gracefully, at least some people seemed to value it.

But WB chose to make it because the fans demanded something with a little more edge and a greater budget.

There should be a sequel to the 2021 reboot, but we haven’t heard much about it. That sounds like it might not be too far away, though.

There are undoubtedly written versions of the movie ready to go after Mortal Kombat creator Ed Boon said to a fan on Twitter that he is reviewing some “interesting” scripts for Mortal Kombat 2.

It’s not apparent if he’s reading distinct screenplays from several authors with unique plots, or if they’re merely various revisions of the same basic plot.

In either case, Boon is probably not the only one responsible. The creators of the original works frequently don’t understand the adaptations, but if they’re lucky, the studio and producers will frequently let them consult on the film.

Although it’s unclear exactly how Boon is involved in Mortal Kombat 2, it’s wonderful to learn that there is a plot in place.

More as we get it.
