During the unveiling of his new star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame, Macaulay Culkin experienced a deeply emotional reunion with his on-screen mother from “Home Alone,” Catherine O’Hara.
In a moving address, O’Hara reminisced about witnessing Culkin rise to international stardom at the tender age of 10. She expressed the enduring global appeal of “Home Alone,” describing it as a cherished sensation. O’Hara attributed this lasting love for the film to Macaulay Culkin, emphasizing that families worldwide continue to watch and adore the movie annually.
Released in 1990, “Home Alone” was a colossal box office success, raking in $476.7 million (£352 million). Culkin and O’Hara reprised their roles in the New York City-set sequel, “Home Alone 2,” in 1992.
While acknowledging the exceptional script and director, O’Hara credited Culkin’s flawless portrayal of Kevin McCallister for creating the iconic character. She commended his ability to make acting appear effortlessly natural, likening it to capturing the adventures of a genuine little boy named Kevin.
Reflecting on Culkin’s sudden fame at the age of 10, O’Hara highlighted the challenges that come with being labeled a superstar and one of Hollywood’s hottest young talents. She attributed Culkin’s survival in the industry to his sense of humor, recognizing it as a sign of intelligence and a key to navigating life at any age.
Expressing pride in Culkin’s journey, O’Hara thanked him for including his “fake mom” in the gratitude and affectionately mentioned leaving him “home alone” not just once but twice. The speech concluded with a heartfelt hug, leaving Culkin visibly moved and wiping away tears.
Natasha Lyonne, who co-starred with Culkin in “Party Monster” in 2003, also shared her sentiments at the ceremony, expressing pride in their friendship and recalling their initial meeting during the filming of a true crime movie.
Among the attendees were Culkin’s partner Brenda Song and their two children, his siblings Rory and Quinn, goddaughter Paris Jackson, and “Party Monster” co-star Seth Green.
