FernGully: The Last Rainforest was an animated fantasy film that was released in 1992, and a live-action Ferngully has fans excited, as a poster seems to think it is possible.

Not even possible…but happening!!!

A viral poster (not the old fashioned ones people stick on walls) sparked widespread speculations of a live-action adaptation by Disney.

Benedict Cumberbatch

For example, Benedict Cumberbatch would be playing Tim Curry’s villain, Hexxus.

Then comedy legend Jim Carrey would taking over for the late, and great, Robin Williams as Batty Koda.

Too good to be true?

Yep, sadly it is.

It looks the real deal, but deepfakes are becoming more and more frequent, so creating this poster doesn’t take a genius, just some basic graphic design skills.

One day it might happen.

You never know the on-line buzz of this poster might be seen by Disney execs?

Ferngully live-action

History – spoilers ALERT

The movie was directed by Bill Kroyer and produced by Kroyer Films, Youngheart Productions, and FAI Films. It is known for its environmental themes and messages.

The story is set in the Australian rainforest and follows the adventures of a young fairy named Crysta. Crysta lives in FernGully, a magical rainforest untouched by humans, and she has the ability to communicate with nature and control plant life. One day, she accidentally shrinks a human named Zak, who is working with loggers to clear the rainforest. As Zak becomes acquainted with the wonders of FernGully and the importance of preserving nature, he joins forces with Crysta and her friends to stop the destruction of their home and save the rainforest from further harm.

The film features a cast of notable voice actors, including Samantha Mathis as Crysta, Jonathan Ward as Zak, Tim Curry as the main antagonist Hexxus (a malevolent spirit released from a tree), and Robin Williams as Batty Koda, a manic bat who has escaped from scientific experiments. Robin Williams’ performance as Batty Koda is particularly memorable for his comedic improvisations.

FernGully: The Last Rainforest received praise for its environmental message and the quality of its animation. It was one of the early animated films to address environmental concerns and deforestation. The movie’s success also led to the creation of a sequel, “FernGully 2: The Magical Rescue,” which was released in 1998.

While FernGully may not be as widely known as some other animated classics, it remains a notable film for its environmental advocacy and its place in the history of animated cinema.
