Lead star Michael J Fox has been asked about what he would think of some kind of return to the time travelling adventure series.
Sadly, he seems to have applied the brakes on the idea of accelerating the (likely electric car!) DeLorean to 88Mph, and bring us more Back To The Future adventures to our move screens.
The actor, 61, whose career and struggle with Parkinson’s disease is the focus of the documentary Still: A Michael J Fox Movie, told Variety he doesn’t think a re-boot of the franchise is a good idea.
‘I don’t think it needs rebooting because are you going to clarify something? You’re going to find a better way to tell the story? I doubt it,’ Fox said.
Is there still hope?
However, If Hollywood studio executives decide to reboot “Back to the Future” without the original cast, Michael J. Fox says he has no problem with it.
“I’m not fanatical,” the star told Variety for a recent cover story on his life and career. “Do what you want. It’s your movie. I got paid already.”
What about the director and writer behind the films?
In the respect of the legends behind the screens, he believes that Robert Zemeckis, the trilogy’s director and writer, and his co-writer, Bob Gale, wouldn’t be keen on working on it.
“I don’t think it needs to be,” Fox said. “I think Bob and Bob have been really smart about that. I don’t think it needs rebooting because are you going to clarify something? You’re going to find a better way to tell the story? I doubt it.”
We have seen trilogies returned to many years later and it has not always work out that well…..
