John Leguizamo, who played Luigi in the 1993 live-action film “Super Mario Bros.”, has stated in interviews that he has no interest in watching the animated movie based on the popular video game franchise.

“I will not be watching Super Mario Bros. They could have included a Latin character, like I was groundbreaking, and then they stopped the groundbreaking. They messed up the inclusion, they dis-included!” – John Leguizamo

In a 2021 interview with Collider, Leguizamo also said that he was not involved in the new movie and did not have any desire to see it.

Leguizamo has been critical of his experience making the original “Super Mario Bros.” movie, which was a critical and commercial failure upon its release. In his 2016 memoir “Pimps, Hos, Playa Hatas, and All the Rest of My Hollywood Friends,” Leguizamo described the production as a “nightmare” and expressed frustration with the film’s director and studio executives.

Despite his negative feelings about the “Super Mario Bros.” movie, Leguizamo has continued to work in Hollywood and has appeared in numerous films and TV shows over the years. He is also an accomplished stage performer, having won a Tony Award for his one-man show “Freak” in 1998.
