He was born on August 26, 1980, in New York City, New York. Culkin is best known for his role as Kevin McCallister in the popular Christmas comedy film “Home Alone” (1990) and its sequel, “Home Alone 2: Lost in New York” (1992). These films catapulted him to international stardom.

Troubled early years

His father Kit Culkin’s involvement in his carrer was a source of some controversy, especially during Macaulay’s years as a child star.

There were legal disputes and conflicts related to the management of Macaulay’s earnings, which eventually led to the emancipation of Macaulay Culkin from his parents when he was 14 years old. This legal action gave him more control over his career and finances.

He faced various personal challenges, including substance abuse issues, during and after his years as a child star. His struggles with addiction were particularly prominent during his teenage years and early adulthood.

However, Macaulay Culkin has worked on his recovery and has been candid about his efforts to overcome addiction. In interviews and statements, he has discussed his journey toward sobriety and the importance of seeking help for those facing similar challenges.

In 1998, he married Rachel Milner when they were both 18, and divorced in 2002.

Michael Jackson

Many have assumed over the years that Culkin was abused by Jackson, particularly due to their much-talked about friendship.

But speaking to Esquire magazine, the actor shut down all rumors: “I’m gonna begin with the line – it’s not a line, it’s the truth: He never did anything to me. I never saw him do anything.

How Macaulay Culkin recovered from childhood fame?

Sense of humour?

He is a funny (old) man. Back in Aug 2020 he Tweeted: “Hey guys, wanna feel old? I’m 40. You’re welcome.”

I'm 40.

You're welcome.

Quiet Family life

Macaulay Culkin and fiancée Brenda Song secretly welcomed their second child in March, and the notoriously private couple are also parents to son Dakota Song Culkin, who was born in 2021, reported The Mirror.

Brenda said: “We don’t have a nanny, but my mom has been here with us since my son was born. When I was working, my mom would bring my son to set so I could breastfeed and see him during the day.”

What he made from Home Alone

For his famous role as crafty Kevin McCallister in the 1990 flick, Macaulay was paid $100,000.

He began making A-list salaries for his film, including earning $1 million for 1991’s My Girl and $4.5 million for Home Alone 2: Lost in New York in 1992. The actor was reportedly paid $8 million for his role in 1994’s Richie Rich.

He revealed in a 2018 interview with Ellen DeGeneres that he never realized he was wealthy until he was an adult because he didn’t have access to his finances until he turned 18—four years after he “retired.”

“I didn’t see it until I turned 18, I call it the ‘Slip of Paper’ meeting, where they pretty much put a number on a piece of paper and slide it across the table and then—boom! There you go,” he said. “So I felt like some kid worked really, really hard, and I inherited all of his money pretty much. I had kind of no real sense, but at the same time, it allows me to treat everything like a hobby really. I do nothing for my dinner nowadays, so I can do all kinds of projects.”

Culkin reportedly made a whopping $23.5 million, before he retired as a child star, which would be close to $40 million when adjusted for inflation today.

He returned to media work in later in his life.

“I enjoy acting. I enjoy being on set,” he told Esquire in 2020. “I don’t enjoy a lot of the other things that come around it. What’s a good analogy? The Shawshank Redemption. The way he gets out of prison is to crawl through a tube of s–t, you know? It feels like to get to that kind of freedom, I’d have to crawl through a tube of s–t. And you know what? I’ve built a really nice prison for myself. It’s soft. It’s sweet. It smells nice. You know? It’s plush.”
