Disney has revealed that Frozen 3 will be released on 24 November 2027, during the Thanksgiving holiday. This update follows the news that a fourth film is already in development.

First look at the new film

Jennifer Lee, who wrote and directed Frozen and Frozen 2, announced the release date during the D23 event last week. Disney later confirmed it. Lee also showed concept art featuring Anna, Elsa, and Olaf riding horses through a sunny forest. A mysterious shadow in a nearby river hints at a new antagonist.

Plot details for Frozen 3 are still under wraps, but the songwriters from the first two films, Kristen Anderson-Lopez and Robert Lopez, will return. The third film was first announced in February last year by Disney CEO Bob Iger. The songwriting duo shared that they were told about the project on the same day as the announcement and were excited by Disney’s ideas.

Kristen Bell (Anna), Idina Menzel (Elsa), and Josh Gad (Olaf) are expected to return for Frozen 3. It is not yet confirmed if they will be part of the fourth film.

Success of the Frozen series

The original Frozen film was released in 2013 and earned $1.28 billion at the box office. It won Best Original Song and Best Animated Feature at the 86th Academy Awards. The sequel, Frozen 2, came out in 2019 and was also a success, earning $1.45 billion on a $150 million budget. It was nominated for Best Original Song at the 92nd Academy Awards.

Teasers and future plans

Josh Gad, who voices Olaf, hinted at Frozen 3 during a talk show appearance. He joked that Disney would stop him if he revealed too much but called the upcoming content “mind-blowing.” Last November, Jennifer Lee hinted that Frozen 3 was so epic that it might lead to a fourth film.

Impact of Frozen

The Frozen films have become beloved by fans worldwide. The franchise inspired a Broadway musical in 2018 and the World of Frozen attraction at Disneyland in Hong Kong. Lee reflected, “I believe it’s the story of familial love and the idea of love conquering fear.”
