Hold onto your vintage goggles—Chitty Chitty Bang Bang is revving up for a reboot, courtesy of James Bond producers Barbara Broccoli and Michael Wilson. Teaming up with Amazon, the iconic story of the magical flying car and its eccentric inventor, Caractacus Potts, is getting a fresh lease of cinematic life.

A Classic Tale Gets a Modern Makeover

The original 1968 film, based on Ian Fleming’s children’s book, saw Dick Van Dyke taking audiences on a whimsical journey full of catchy tunes, colourful sets, and a thoroughly ridiculous villain, Baron Bomburst. Now, Broccoli and Wilson are taking the wheel to update this cherished classic for today’s audiences.

According to Deadline, the reboot is still in the early stages, with Eon Productions and Amazon searching for the perfect writer and director to steer the project. But one thing’s for sure: they’re aiming for a theatrical release, with all the pizzazz you’d expect from the team behind James Bond.

Reviving a Family Favourite

Why reboot Chitty Chitty Bang Bang? Well, apart from giving adults a healthy dose of nostalgia, it’s also a chance to introduce a whole new generation to the quirky charm of Ian Fleming’s imaginative tale. From singing along to the Oscar-nominated title track to marvelling at the flying car’s antics, the story offers timeless family fun.

With Broccoli and Wilson at the helm, there’s hope this reboot will retain the adventurous spirit of the original while updating its visuals and narrative for the 21st century. After all, if they can modernize Bond for each new era, surely they can sprinkle a little magic dust on Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

Can They Recapture the Magic?

The original film’s blend of whimsy, music, and larger-than-life characters cemented its place in cinematic history. But rebooting such a beloved classic is no small task—audiences will expect big things from the Potts family and their four-wheeled companion.

Whether it’s zooming through the skies or dodging Bomburst’s ridiculous schemes, one thing’s for certain: the flying car that “truly scrumptious” dreams are made of is set to soar once again. Just don’t let Dick Van Dyke’s accent come back with it.

Let’s see if Broccoli and Wilson can balance nostalgia and modern flair to create a reboot that’s not just “toot sweet” but positively “Chitty Chitty Bang-tastic.”
