Pet Sematary 2 is coming soon and it might not end the franchise, but be the start of a new universe for the franchise.

Pet Sematary is a horror film based on a novel of the same name by Stephen King. The novel was originally published in 1983, and it has been adapted into two film adaptations.

It was recently King’s birthday, he messaged on X: “Thanks to everyone who wished me a happy birthday. I now have as many years as there were trombones leading the big parade.”

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines co-writer/director Lindsey Anderson Beer has expressed an interest in expanding the franchise with a potential sequel and delving deeper into Stephen King’s horror story, reports Screen Rant.

However, like all films, the success of this new movie will either impress or distress the movie making industry. Money talks.

Pet Sematary: Bloodlines premieres on Paramount+ on October 6 and serves as a prequel to both the 2019 adaptation and King’s novel.

Both adaptations aim to explore themes of grief, loss, and the consequences of trying to defy death through supernatural means.

“Pet Sematary” (1989): The first film adaptation of “Pet Sematary” was released in 1989. It was directed by Mary Lambert and followed the story of a family that moves to a rural town in Maine and discovers an ancient burial ground with supernatural powers. When their cat is killed, they bury it in the “Pet Sematary,” and it comes back to life, setting off a chain of tragic events. The film was generally well-received by horror enthusiasts and has become a classic in the genre.

“Pet Sematary” (2019): A second adaptation of “Pet Sematary” was released in 2019. This film, directed by Kevin Kölsch and Dennis Widmyer, is a modern retelling of the story with some changes to the plot and characters compared to the 1989 version. It stars Jason Clarke, Amy Seimetz, and John Lithgow. Like the original, it focuses on a family that moves to rural Maine and experiences the supernatural horrors of the “Pet Sematary.” While opinions on the 2019 adaptation are mixed, it received attention for its updated take on the classic story.
