Disney has unveiled the trailer for its latest addition to the “Star Wars” universe, the highly anticipated series “The Acolyte,” slated to premiere on Disney+ on June 4.

Set 100 years prior to the events of the prequel trilogy, “The Acolyte” delves into the High Republic era, marking the furthest exploration into the “Star Wars” timeline in a live-action production. The series promises an enthralling narrative as it follows an investigation into a string of heinous crimes, pitting a revered Jedi Master, portrayed by Lee Jung-jae, against a formidable adversary from his past, portrayed by Amandla Stenberg. As the plot unravels, dark secrets come to light, revealing a sinister underbelly to the galaxy.

The trailer offers glimpses of the intense action to come, with Lee’s Jedi Master leading the charge against Stenberg’s cloaked assassin, who wreaks havoc across the galaxy. The tension escalates as the Jedi embark on a perilous pursuit, culminating in a gripping showdown where lightsabers clash in a dazzling display of skill and power.

Creator Leslye Headland will helm the series as showrunner and executive producer, alongside an esteemed lineup of producers including Simon Emanuel, Jeff F. King, Kathleen Kennedy, Jason Micallef, Charmaine DeGraté, and Kor Adana. Rayne Roberts and Damian Anderson round out the team as producers for “The Acolyte.”

“The Acolyte” first entered development in 2020, with a teaser unveiled during Lucasfilm’s annual “Star Wars” Day celebration later that same year. The series joins a roster of acclaimed “Star Wars” shows on Disney+, including “Obi-Wan Kenobi,” “Andor,” “The Book of Boba Fett,” and “Ahsoka.” The groundbreaking success of “The Mandalorian,” which premiered in 2019, paved the way for the expansion of the “Star Wars” universe on the streaming platform, with its third season airing in spring 2023 and a highly anticipated movie, “The Mandalorian and Grogu,” set to commence production later this year.
