Electronic Arts’ iconic open-world racer, Need for Speed: Most Wanted, might be in line for a modern-day makeover if recent revelations from a key voice actor hold true.

Simone Bailly, known for her role as Officer Turf in the original 2005 game, hinted at a potential remake in now-deleted posts on Instagram and Twitter. Despite the removal of the posts, keen-eyed users on the GamingLeaksAndRumours subreddit caught wind of the news.

According to Bailly, a “Need for Speed: Most Wanted Remake” is set to hit the scene in 2024. The remake seems to be a revisiting of EA Vancouver’s 2005 classic rather than Criterion Games’ 2012 version, as Bailly mentioned reprising her role as the “partner” of Sergeant Jonathan Cross, the game’s protagonist.

In the original storyline, voiced by Dean McKenzie, Cross led a task force of traffic officers aiming to quell illegal street racing in the city of Rockport. However, players had their own plans.

The details surrounding the remake’s development remain shrouded in mystery. It’s unclear whether Bailly and McKenzie have returned to the studio to record new lines or if the remake will rely on the original game’s voice work.

Need for Speed: Most Wanted received critical acclaim upon its 2005 release, earning praise from Eurogamer, who deemed it “near enough an essential purchase” with an 8/10 rating. Despite the success of past entries, EA‘s latest installment, Need for Speed Unbound, faced mixed reviews, yet former Eurogamer editor-in-chief Martin Robinson still awarded it a Recommended badge.
