Grant Shapps defence secretary, two things most people would never imagine could ever happen, but it has.

It is Shapps’s fifth cabinet role in under a year, having also served as transport secretary, home secretary and business secretary – all in the past 12 months.
Claire Coutinho has just been given Grant Shapps’s previous role of Secretary of State for Energy Security and Net Zero.

On Sky News Sam Coates told viewers: “A couple of Tory backbenchers not happy with Grant Shapps being appointed Defence Secretary.
Sam Coates: “This man doesn’t get across detail & only cares about photos & gimmicky press releases… what a wasted opportunity” “He sold encyclopedias. It’s a joke given we’re at war”
Caroline Lucas also had this to say…
“Rent-a-Minister Grant Shapps embodies Government chaos. He’s held 5 different cabinet posts in past 12 months. Transport, Home, BEIS, Energy, and now Defence. This govt is a desperate scrambled cohort of failure & an election to get rid of the lot of them can’t come soon enough.”
