Asylum seekers allowance is to be cut to a tiny amount.

Now thousands of asylum seekers forced to live in hotels, until their claims are being processed, will have their allowance cut to just £1.25 a day.

Support payments for those in hotel accommodation will be cut from £9.58 a week to £8.86 a week in the new year, reports The Guardian.

The PM said: “‘If we do not tackle this problem, the numbers will only grow. It will overwhelm our countries and our capacity to help those who actually need our help the most.

‘If that requires us to update our laws and lead an international conversation to amend the post-war frameworks around asylum, then we must do that.

1.

No-one imposing this could live on on £1.25 a day. It is simply a cruel punishment for desperate people – most of whom are found to be legally entitled to remain in this country.

The reality of life as an asylum seeker.

Not allowed to find your own accommodation, not allowed to work or seek work and obliged to live on £1.25 a day. https://t.co/lAmMPPAzyY

Just a reminder that at the same time the Home Office is classing people who are unable to attend appointments as "withdrawing their claims". People can't survive on this, not when it has to cover so much. This is just dehumanising cruelty.https://t.co/bt49oHpojp

This poll seems to think it is fine…

Tens of thousands of asylum seekers forced to live in hotels in the UK while their claims are being processed will have their allowance cut to just £1.25 a day, the government has said.

Do you think this is fair or unfair?
