Britain has joined the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), which also included countries like Australia, Canada and Japan, but has the BBC been unfair on the government?

Rishi Sunak said the deal “will help us unlock the benefits of Brexit” and boost the UK economy.

“As part of CPTPP, the UK is now in a prime position in the global economy to seize opportunities for new jobs, growth and innovation,” Sunak said.

Belittle

But the BBC appeared to belittle the landmark post-Brexit accord by saying it would increase our GDP by only 0.08 per cent, claims The Sun.

A Tory source, told The Sun: “The Brussels Broadcasting Corporation has not got over losing the referendum seven years ago and churns out rubbish to do Britain down at every opportunity.”

So are the BBC wrong?

Well, to claim the £11trillion trade deal is that much is a stretch, a massive stretch. That figure is only reached f you added up ALL the GDP of the countries in the trading bloc.

The government’s own assessment of the arrangement forecasts that it will add just 0.08% to the UK’s GDP over the next 10 years.

So should there be anger at the BBC?

Describing CPTPP as an "£11trillion trade deal" because its membership's GDP adds up to 11 trillion is like looking at the monthly user count and telling everyone you're romantically involved with 75 million people because you just downloaded Tinder. pic.twitter.com/SNXBRMByIy

Harry Cole of The Sun has blocked me…

So I can't take this up with him

But just look at the scale of deception here

He references an £11trillion trade deal

When Govt's own website states that £11trillion is the combined GDP of the entire CPTPP

Off-the-chart disinformation. pic.twitter.com/YnCvvCzP3W

This is completely disingenuous bullshit from Harry Cole.
It isn't an £11trillion trade deal and he knows it.

7.

This is just a flat lie. There is no £11trillion trade deal. The combined GDP of those signatories may be that. The U.K. GDP estimate is £1.8bn over 10 years. Barely a rounding error.
