Fury at another ‘shameful’ Suella Braverman video – Home Office want it taken down

The home secretary Suella Braverman has said she will not apologise for her language.

It comes as a Holocaust survivor criticised Braverman for describing migrants as an “invasion”.

Also, Conservative MP Andrew Bridgen was stripped of the party whip for comparing the Covid vaccine to the Holocaust.

And one of his MPs has defended him!

Braverman’s comments

Returning to the Braverman row it was Joan Salter, 83, who confronted the Minister during a meeting in her constituency last week.

She said Braverman’s rhetoric reminded her of the language the Nazis used to justify murdering her family.

However, Braverman didn’t see it that way, she said her words laid of out ‘scale of the problem’ with illegal migration into the UK.

The clip was provided by the charity Freedom from Torture, where Ms Salter said: “When I hear you using words against refugees like ‘swarms’ and an ‘invasion’, I am reminded of the language used to dehumanise and justify the murder of my family and millions of others.

“Why do you find the need to use that kind of language?”

Ms Braverman then said said she “shared a huge amount of concern and sympathy” over the “challenge” of illegal immigration.

She said her own parents were not born in Britain and “owe everything to this country”.

However, she added: “There is a huge problem that we have right now when it comes to illegal migration, the scale of which we have not known before.

“I won’t apologise for the language that I have used to demonstrate the scale of the problem.”

Taken down

Now the Home Office want the video taken down

Sangita Myska tweeted: “When Suella Braverman was called out by *Holocaust Survivor* Joan Salter for using racist language (“invasion”), the Home Sec used a *Government Press Office* to demand that the charity that filmed the exchange removed the video from Twitter. WELCOME TO DYSTOPIA.”

The Home Office said a one-minute video of the incident, shared by Freedom from Torture on social media, was “heavily edited and doesn’t reflect the full exchange”.

“Since the footage misrepresents the interaction about a sensitive area of policy, we have asked the organisation who posted the video to take it down,” a spokesman said.
